So you are worried about security for your data and you already have a major investment in infrastructure, how do you plan the next five years to get the most out of your IT budget. You have looked at the Cloud, but it isn’t for you. How do you plan your capital expense budget, keep your operation costs fixed and be ready for the Cloud when it is ready for your business?
  • Inventory your equipment and software
  • Document your environment
  • Create a project list
  • Determine the correct renewal periods for support and software contracts
  • Create a 3 for 5 year design & budget
  • Virtualize Servers and Storage to meet your Business Continuity needs
  • Evaluate your Disaster Recovery and fail over objectives
  • Design a proper backup strategy for your Virtual environment
  • Take advantage of SaaS where it already makes sense
  • Reduce staff that isn’t a good fit to help achieve the above goals
  • Find a partner that will manage to your plan and keep your operational costs fixed
  • Reevaluate the plan quarterly or at least twice a year
  • Now you have the best of both worlds and you will be able to know where you are going, and what your costs are going to be.
